Day 1 Progress

Today I ripped the 4' x 8' sheet into two pieces of 24" x 20" to be used as the top and bottom of the outer frame of the piece, using the table saw. I first cut the sheet into two pieces that were 8' x 20". I then cut the two 24" lengths (top and bottom). I then needed two pieces 28.5" x 20" to be used as the sides of the out frame. I cut the the next two 20" widths 28.5 as the sides. For the inner frame I cross cut the  20" width into two pieces, with 20" lengths each, to be used as the top and bottom pieces of the inner unit. Lastly, I cut the side piece of the inner unit but cross cutting the remaining 20" width piece into a length of 14". Now that I had all of the pieces for make the inner rectangular frame and inner rectangular frame for the unit, I decided to edge band all the edges of wood that would be visibly exposed. I used an iron to adhere the 1" edge banding to the 3/4" thick exposed sides. I then cut the edge banding hanging off the sides with a cutter, which cut both sides at once. Another cutting tool was used to cut off the corner pieces.
