Next I marked out the appropriate number of places where pocket holes needed to be drilled based on the size of the piece I was working with (three for the bottom and top, four for the sides). I used the kreg foreman to make pocket holes in the top, bottom, and sides of the nightstand. I really liked using this tool; it was simple and just kind of fun.
At this point I remembered I had not decided on a way for the drawer to opperate and had to consult with Tim about my options for doing so. I only remembered this because I knew I may need to do things to the sides of the nightstand and was worried I wouldn't be able to once it was assembled. I decided on the option to use two 3" support beams attached to the front band (third picture below) to hold the drawer. I cut these pieces and made the corresponding pocket holes.
Once all the necessary pocket holes were made I began assembling the nightstand. Using clamps to hold pieces together and a mallet to nudge things into place, it went by fairly quickly. This was the most satisfying part of the day. It was great to actually see the nightstand coming together and know my measurements worked out correctly.
I was able to put together the body of the nightstand before leaving for the day. This leaves only four tasks to complete the project: assemble drawer, add support beams, glue top on, and attach legs.
And here is me, happy that I still have all my fingers.
